My Story

From a young age, art has been my way of exploring ideas, expressing myself, and connecting with the world around me.

HI, I’M NAYANIKA!

I grew up facing challenges that few children encounter, navigating health struggles at an age meant for innocence and ease. Rather than allowing those experiences to define me, I discovered strength and solace in art. What began as a quiet refuge soon evolved into a powerful journey of healing, self-discovery, and growth. Through colour, form, and every deliberate brushstroke, I learned not only to endure my journey, but to rise above it with resilience, grace, and purpose.

I believe limitations can create depth. In my practice, I explore how working within constraints can lead to clarity, focus, and unexpected possibility.

Artistic Journey & Inspiration

My artistic journey is rooted in mandala making, which has become my primary mode of visual expression. Working with repetition, symmetry, and detail has taught me patience, focus, and discipline, while also allowing space for emotional reflection.

Through mandala art, I explore identity, emotion, and transformation. The meditative process of building forms layer by layer helps me translate inner experiences into structured visual language. Colour, rhythm, and balance play a central role in my work.

Alongside mandalas, I explore painting and mixed media to expand my understanding of texture and composition. I value working within limitations, as constraints bring clarity and depth to my practice and strengthen both intention and craft.

Published & Recognised Work

My mandala based artworks have been recognised within educational and community settings, where they were selected for use in commemorative and appreciation projects. These experiences allowed my work to engage with a wider audience and reinforced the communicative strength of my visual language.

My Hobbies & Interests

Apart from my professional work, I enjoy exploring creative hobbies that inspire my artistic thinking. These interests influence my approach to design, storytelling, and experimentation across different art forms.

Explorations

I am expanding my artistic perspective by engaging with diverse artistic environments and cultural contexts. Experiencing art across places and communities allows me to question my assumptions and refine my visual language through observation and participation.

I am interested in learning from diverse cultural and craft based traditions. I seek to explore material driven practices, regional pattern systems, and mandala inspired forms, along with approaches rooted in ritual, symbolism, and community knowledge. I am also drawn to historical craftsmanship, surface textures, ceramic practices, and culturally embedded motifs.

Alongside travel based learning, I plan to work with artisans, experiment with sustainable materials, and develop my practice through workshops and collaborations. I also intend to collaborate with a popular South Indian film artist and a fashion designer within my family to explore costume creation using sustainable materials such as reused plastic, bamboo, and banana fibre.
