My Hobbies & Interests

Apart from my professional work, I enjoy exploring creative hobbies that inspire my artistic thinking. These interests influence my approach to design, storytelling, and experimentation across different art forms.

Interest in Traditional Art Forms

My interest in traditional art forms grew through everyday cultural practices such as creating pookkalams during the Onam festival in Kerala and drawing kolams in my home in Chennai. I have also enjoyed applying henna designs for others, which introduced me to working on the human body as a surface and responding to individual forms. Working with natural materials, repetition, and geometric pattern taught me rhythm, balance, and impermanence. These experiences continue to influence my visual thinking and connect closely with my mandala practice, where pattern and structure carry both cultural memory and personal expression.

Building with Lego

LEGO as an Early Design Influence

My engagement with LEGO began in early childhood and shaped the way I understand form, structure, and spatial relationships. Building with modular elements introduced me to systems, repetition, and balance through hands on exploration.

Experiencing LEGO environments and stores across different countries expanded my awareness of design as both functional and expressive. These early interactions continue to inform my fine arts practice, particularly my mandala based work, where pattern, symmetry, and construction through repetition are central to my visual language.

Learning Through Teaching Art

During my high school years, I worked as a teacher assistant supporting art classes for elementary school students. Guiding young children through creative activities taught me the value of patience, clarity, and encouragement. The warmth of their response, often expressed through spontaneous greetings and hugs in school corridors, affirmed the emotional power of art as a shared experience. This role deepened my understanding of art as communication and connection, reinforcing my interest in creating work that is both thoughtful and accessible.

Exploring Handcrafted Techniques

Exploring Handcrafted Techniques

My interest in handcrafted art and craft techniques has grown through hands on experimentation with jewellery making using beads and metal. Creating phone charms and bracelets introduced me to detail, repetition, and precision at a small scale. I am currently exploring crochet and basket making, which has expanded my understanding of rhythm, structure, and material behavior. These practices support my portfolio by strengthening my sensitivity to pattern, tactility, and process driven making across different mediums.

Puzzle Artistry

She enjoys doing jigsaw puzzles and other thinking puzzles in her free time. Solving them helps her build patience, focus, and careful attention to detail. Just like placing each puzzle piece in the right spot, she creates her mandala art step by step with care and balance. Her interest in puzzles strengthens her concentration and love for patterns, which beautifully connects to her artistic journey. [instead of explorations we should change it to Puzzle Artistry, because explorations is given as a para below in the same page
